No prehistoric archaeology has been recovered from within the area of investigation, although evidence in the form of worked flints from evaluations on the Adams Hydraulics site in 1991-3 (Finnlayson, 1997, in Macnab, 1999, 7) suggest that there may have been prehistoric activity in the area. Excavations at St George's Field in 1992-3 recovered evidence for Bronze Age inundation, with the survival of large trees at 8-9 m deep (Hunter-Mann, 1994). A possible ring ditch has been extrapolated from a feature discovered on the site of the Sainsbury's Store to the north-east, possibly of prehistoric date (YAT, 2000, 5).
