A series of nine probe-holes was observed in an area on both sides of the modern street known as The Stonebow in York. Well preserved organic deposits were recorded at depth in five of the probe-holes. Little dating evidence was recovered but it is believed that Roman, Anglo-Scandinavian and medieval deposits were represented. A possible natural ridge extending south from The Stonebow towards the River Foss was also identified.
