The site of All Saints was excavated on the Haymarket site in 1986-7. The church dates back to 1191/1206 and is possibly of pre-Conquest origin. A second church of St Cuthbert is mentioned in the Domesday Book and contains eleventh century material in its fabric (Macnab, 1999, 9). Both churches would have had associated cemeteries, and it is believed possible that the entirety of the All Saints cemetery falls within the area of interest, although it may extend beneath the Ambulance Station to the north-east of Dundas Street (Macnab, 1999, 9).
